Actress Poorna’s Interview
A little introduction:
I am a classical dancer, trained in Kerala. Josh is my first film and I got selected through an audition conducted by Shivamani Sir. I am based in Kerala and my mother tongue is Malayalam.
About Josh:
Well, I never expected to get selected for this role. There were so many beautiful girls who had come for the audition, that I thought I surely didn’t have a chance! Even when they called me to say that I was selected, I thought they wanted me to dance in their film as I am a classical dancer.
Are you interested in dance programmes than cinema?
It is not like this. Right from my young age I was interested in dance. That is why I am concentrating on dance even now. I was introduced as an actress in Telugu films at age of thirteen itself.
But after this I started participated in dance programmes alone. After this I came to cinema. Since I like Tamil cinema, I will continue to act in Tamil films.
It seems that you are getting roles through recommendations?
This question is being asked regularly these days. Though I have answered this question, I am being asked the same question again and again. Nobody is recommending for me. I have not come to cinema expecting something. Offers are coming in search of me. There are no people to recommend for me as you say.
In cinema functions you are being compared with Asin?
Yes. It is true that people compare me to Asin in the functions I participate. Since I have the physique like Asin, people speak like this. But while acting I am very individualistic. I follow my style of acting. Because this I am very careful in choosing stories and characters. Apart from this I like being compared with Asin.
What is Your Favorite actors and movies?
I like Shobhana a lot and want to become like her some day. I like movies that have dance in them. I just watch movies with lots of dance in them.
About Telugu and Hindi films?
I have acted in Telugu films earlier. But now I am concentrating in Tamil films alone. Audiences have also supported me in films like Muniyandi and Kandakottai. I have no experience in acting in Hindi films.\
Vithagan?
Parthiban is acting and directing this film. I am the heroine of this film. The story is about a police officer’s life. I have got a different role; this film will be definitely a hit. I am also currently acting in Droghi and Arjunan Kadhali.
Experiences of working with a new team:
We were instantly gelling with each other on the sets. You see, everyone except the director and the cameraman are new. There are three girls and three boys in the movie and we all had a great time shooting for the movie. Now, as we are nearing the completion of the shoot, we are really upset to part our ways. It might have been a totally different experience if I had a chance to work with the likes of Ganesh Sir and Puneet Sir, as they are already huge stars in Kannada. But here, since everyone was a newcomer, we had a rocking time!
Working in an alien langauge:
The atmosphere here is very good. Even though I don’t know the language, (Nange svalpa svalpa Kannada Barutte!) director Shivamani Sir made me memorize the dialogue while giving the shots.
What is Your Future career plans?
Right now, I don’t have any offers in Kannada. But I am doing a movie in Malayalam with Fasil and Dilip’s combination. I have some offers in Tamil too. Also, I want to act with Amitabh Bachchan as his heroine! He is my favorite. I told my mother that I missed a big chance, when I saw Nishabd. But then, Bollywood prefers slimmer heroines compared to the South industry. I am a little overweight compared to those heroines!
